Axens and Green Sky Capital have signed an agreement to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Egypt with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year. The facility will be the first of its kind in Africa and is expected to start operations by the end of 2027. It will use Axens' Vegan HEFA technology to convert locally collected used cooking oil into SAF, reducing aviation emissions and supporting Egypt's energy transition. The project aims to supply SAF to Mediterranean and African markets, using local raw materials to improve energy security. Axens will also provide catalysts, adsorbents, training, and operational support. The companies have already optimized production yields without increasing energy consumption, which could improve the project's economic viability and boost SAF output per ton of feedstock.
