Avisford Park Hotel invests GBP 300,000 in solar and battery storage to cut carbon and energy costs
sussexexpress.co.ukAvisford Park Hotel in West Sussex has completed a GBP 300,000 installation of solar panels and battery storage, turning a disused tennis court into a 163.24 kWp renewable energy system. The setup includes 308 bifacial panels and 200 kWh of battery capacity, expected to generate around 161,000 kWh per year and cut the hotel's carbon emissions by an estimated 33 tonnes annually. The battery storage is key because the hotel's electricity use does not match peak sunshine hours. By storing solar power for later use, the hotel reduces reliance on the grid and locks in electricity costs at roughly 5.88p per unit over the system's 25-year lifespan. This is well below current and forecast grid rates, making the investment both an environmental and financial decision. Hospitality sites like this one face rising energy costs and guest pressure to show real sustainability. This project shows how on-site generation with storage can address both challenges with a measurable carbon reduction rather than offsets.
