Aviko Installs Electric Boiler at Lomm Potato Plant to Cut Natural Gas Use and CO2 Emissions by 4,800 Tonnes Annually
potatopro.comAviko, a Dutch potato processor, has installed a fully electric boiler at its Lomm production facility as part of a factory electrification program. The e-boiler will replace part of the site's natural gas steam generation, using 100% renewable electricity to cut CO2 emissions by at least 4,800 tonnes per year. The project required a major infrastructure expansion, including a new high-voltage cable and distribution station, in cooperation with grid operator Enexis and local authorities. The installation is part of Aviko's broader strategy to electrify production processes and reduce fossil fuel dependence, aligned with its Science Based Targets initiative commitments. The company aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. Commissioning is expected in late 2026, following testing and structural modifications at the factory.
