Avantium PEF Polymer Life Cycle Assessment Shows 88% Lower Carbon Emissions
newsroom.avantium.comAvantium has released an updated Life Cycle Assessment for its plant-based polymer, releaf. The study indicates that using this material for 500 mL beverage bottles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 88% compared to traditional PET plastics under European conditions. The carbon reductions are driven by replacing fossil carbon with renewable plant-based feedstocks and improving material properties to allow for lighter packaging. The assessment, conducted with nova-Institut and Tereos, covers the entire process from biomass production to recycling and end-of-life treatment.
