Australia's Nature Repair Market Adds Two NSW Projects, 2,656 Hectares in Restoration
nationaltribune.com.auAustralia's Nature Repair Market has registered two new projects in New South Wales, bringing the total area under restoration to 2,656 hectares. The Nortongong Biodiversity Restoration Project near Coonamble is run by Wilga Farming, and Silva Capital is running a second project at Cooplacurripa Station. Both are planting local species, managing weeds and feral pests, and stacking the biodiversity work with environmental plantings projects under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme. The market launched last year as a way for landholders, farmers, First Nations groups and conservation groups to earn income from verifiable environmental restoration. A second method is planned for projects that improve biodiversity on land with existing native vegetation, and changes to the EPBC Act will allow Nature Repair Market projects to be used as environmental offsets. That could widen demand beyond voluntary buyers.
