Australia's Green Fuels Accelerator: $1.7M pilot to boost low-carbon aviation and maritime fuel projects

A new pilot program called the Green Fuels Accelerator is providing $1.7 million in support to seven low-carbon fuel projects across Australia. Backed by ARENA, Qantas, and Boeing, the accelerator aims to help projects convert agricultural waste or ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel and maritime fuel. The program offers regulatory, technical, legal, and financial advice to companies that have not yet reached a final investment decision. The announcement comes as airlines pledge to use more low-carbon fuels but face slow production growth. Sustainable aviation fuel is on track to represent less than one percent of global airline fuel in 2026. The accelerator is designed to push promising projects toward commercial scale, with ARENA investing $766,000 to help move them closer to construction. Qantas has committed to using 10 percent sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.
