Australia's Green Fuels Accelerator: $1.7M pilot to boost seven low-carbon fuel projects for aviation and maritime transport

A new $1.7 million pilot program called the Green Fuels Accelerator aims to push seven Australian low-carbon fuel projects toward final investment decisions. Backed by ARENA, Qantas, and Boeing, the accelerator provides regulatory, technical, and financial support to projects converting agricultural waste and ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel and maritime fuel. The move comes as global sustainable aviation fuel production remains below 1% of total airline fuel in 2026. Most of the seven projects are located in Queensland, with one each in Western Australia and New South Wales. The federal government is also exploring a sustainable aviation fuel mandate. The accelerator's goal is to prove commercial viability and unlock further investment in a sector seen as critical for both emissions reduction and fuel security.
