Australia launches $1.7M green fuel accelerator for sustainable aviation fuel projects
begadistrictnews.com.auAustralia has launched the Green Fuels Accelerator, a $1.7 million pilot program to support seven low-carbon fuel projects across Queensland, Western Australia, and NSW. Backed by ARENA, Qantas, and Boeing, the accelerator provides regulatory, technical, and financial advice to help projects reach final investment decisions. Most projects aim to convert agricultural waste or ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and marine fuels. Qantas has a target of 10% SAF by 2030, but global SAF production is currently less than 1% of airline fuel. The accelerator is designed to bridge the gap between pilot projects and commercial scale, with ARENA investing $766,000. The program targets first-of-a-kind technologies where even strong teams lack full expertise, aiming to prove commercial viability and unlock further investment.
