Australia Greenhouse Gas Inventory 2025: Emissions Drop 2.1 Percent
nationaltribune.com.auAustralia's national greenhouse gas emissions fell by 2.1 percent in the year ending December 2025, totaling 458.9 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. The decline was driven largely by record renewable energy generation and a reduction in fugitive emissions from natural gas venting and carbon capture activities. While electricity and fugitive emissions saw notable decreases, industrial process emissions rose by 3.0 percent due to increased steel production. Overall, emissions are now 24.5 percent below 2005 levels as the country works toward its 2030 Paris Agreement target.
