Atlas Critical Minerals Reports High-Grade Graphite Resource in Brazil for EV and Nuclear Supply Chains
etnet.com.hkAtlas Critical Minerals published a maiden mineral resource estimate for its Malacacheta graphite project in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The project hosts 17.2 million tonnes indicated at 5.73% graphitic carbon and 7.0 million tonnes inferred at 5.40%, for roughly 1.36 million tonnes of contained graphite. The company says this is the largest reported graphite resource in South America and that the indicated grade is about 25% higher than the Graphite Creek deposit in Alaska. The resource sits near surface and appears suited to open-pit mining. Only one of three tenements and about 2.5 kilometers of an 11 kilometer corridor have been drilled, so the deposit remains open along strike and at depth. Atlas plans a preliminary economic assessment in Q2 2027 after additional drilling and metallurgical testing. Graphite is the dominant anode material in lithium-ion batteries, and the United States currently has no domestic natural graphite production. Concentrate from the project has reportedly qualified for EV battery and nuclear reactor specifications, though that claim will need independent confirmation. For anyone tracking battery supply chains, critical minerals policy, or grid storage inputs, this is a project worth following.
