Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has partnered with EcoCeres to use renewable HVO diesel at its manufacturing plant in Wuxi, China. The fuel, made from used cooking oil and certified under ISCC, will power emergency generators, cutting lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel. This is part of AstraZeneca's Ambition Zero Carbon strategy, aiming for a 98% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of 2026. The drop-in nature of HVO means no equipment changes are needed, making it a practical decarbonization step for industrial sites. The partnership highlights how certified renewable fuels can be deployed in sectors beyond transportation, offering a template for other pharmaceutical and manufacturing facilities in China.
