Aster DM Quality Care has commissioned a 10 MW solar power project for its Aster Medcity hospital in Kerala, built by Oyster Renewable Energy. The Rs 3.87 crore facility uses bifacial solar modules and is expected to generate 16-17.5 million units per year, covering over 90% of the hospital's energy demand on a captive basis. The project, located in Kasargod district, is being commissioned in phases, with the first phase now operational. Once fully complete, it is expected to offset around 23,138 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, cutting the hospital's carbon footprint significantly. The power will be supplied through a special purpose vehicle in which Aster Group holds a 26% equity stake, a structure that maintains captive status under Indian regulations. This move reflects a broader trend of hospitals adopting renewable energy to manage high continuous power needs and reduce reliance on grid electricity. The project also contributes to Kerala's clean energy goals and India's transition to lower-carbon infrastructure.
