ASTA Energy Solutions AG, a manufacturer of copper winding and conductor components, will invest around EUR 17 million in a new copper recycling platform at its Oed site in Lower Austria. The platform will produce copper wire from secondary copper, sourced from ASTA's own production and from customers and suppliers. Production is scheduled to start at the end of 2029, with the first machinery ordered in 2026. The company aims to increase the share of recycled copper in its production to 70% by 2030, reducing its carbon footprint per tonne of copper wire and cutting dependence on external copper suppliers. The investment is part of ASTA's 'Low Carbon Copper' initiative, announced at its IPO in January 2026. The company already operates a recycling platform in Brazil, and the new Austrian platform will leverage that know-how. Copper can be recycled indefinitely without quality loss, and Europe already gets about half of its copper from recycled sources. ASTA's move supports EU recycling targets and offers customers a closed material loop with full traceability, while also shortening transport routes and simplifying supply chains. The project meets the company's internal return requirements and is included in its medium-term investment planning.
