ASTA Energy Solutions AG plans to invest about €17 million in a copper recycling platform at its Oed, Austria site, with production expected to begin by the end of 2029. The company says the project supports a target of 70% recycled copper by 2030 and is part of the 'Low Carbon Copper' strategy it outlined around its IPO. The move is aimed at vertical integration and supply security, letting ASTA source scrap internally and externally rather than depending entirely on primary copper. Recycled copper typically uses far less energy than mined copper, so the project could lower both input costs and the carbon footprint of its products. The long lead time means benefits will not show up for several years, and the market will likely watch for finalized feedstock agreements and capex phasing.
