A new report from Boeing, GenZero, and Abatable estimates that ASEAN countries could earn up to USD 8.5 billion over the next decade by supplying carbon credits under CORSIA, the aviation industry's offsetting scheme. The region currently provides about 7% of global CORSIA eligible credits, mostly from four projects in Cambodia and Laos. The report says that number could jump eightfold quickly if governments issue Letters of Authorisation for 54 more projects that already meet the requirements. Looking further out, prioritizing another 100 carbon projects could add over 302 million eligible credits and support around 32,000 jobs across ASEAN. The report recommends better coordination between transport and environment ministries, clearer alignment with national climate plans, and piloting of authorisation letters. Airlines like Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Aviation Group have already started building procurement frameworks. The full opportunity depends on governments moving fast on policy and project approvals.
