Asbury Advanced Materials completes Graphit Kropfmühl acquisition, boosting graphite supply for EV and battery markets
bastillepost.comAsbury Advanced Materials has finalized its acquisition of Graphit Kropfmühl GmbH from AMG, adding a major European graphite producer to its portfolio. The deal brings together over 250 years of combined experience in carbon materials and gives Asbury control over mining, processing, and technology operations across Europe and Asia. Graphit Kropfmühl employs about 390 people and will operate as part of Asbury's global platform, with the Netherlands division rebranded under the GK name. This acquisition matters for the clean energy transition because graphite is a critical input for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and grid storage. By vertically integrating sourcing and processing, Asbury aims to secure supply chains that are currently heavily dependent on Chinese production. The combined company will supply more than 2,000 grades of carbon and graphite materials to industries including polymers, coatings, lubricants, and specialty ceramics. For investors and industry watchers, the deal signals consolidation in the advanced materials space as demand for battery-grade graphite grows. Asbury now operates eight manufacturing sites across North America and Europe, with sales offices globally. The transaction closed in July 2026, and the post-close integration is underway.
