Asahi Kasei Subsidiary Gets Reasonable Assurance Carbon Verification for Acrylonitrile
chemanalyst.comAsahi Kasei's South Korean subsidiary Tongsuh Petrochemical has secured Reasonable Assurance verification for the product carbon footprint of acrylonitrile made at its Ulsan plant. Socotec Certification Japan audited the methodology, source data, and production processes for fiscal 2025. The higher verification grade gives industrial buyers more confidence when comparing emissions data for ABS, acrylic fibre, and carbon fibre feedstocks. The company has used biomass-derived propylene with a mass balance approach since 2022 and holds ISCC PLUS certification. Asahi Kasei says it will keep cutting emissions through catalyst improvements and more bio-based feedstock. The announcement does not include a specific footprint number or new capacity, so near term acrylonitrile prices are unlikely to move. The main effect is on supplier qualification and scope 3 reporting for downstream customers.
