Asahi Kasei Secures Reasonable Assurance Verification for Acrylonitrile Carbon Footprint at Ulsan Plant
chemindigest.comTongsuh Petrochemical, Asahi Kasei's South Korean subsidiary, has secured Reasonable Assurance verification from Socotec Certification Japan for the product carbon footprint of acrylonitrile produced at its Ulsan site. The audit covered fiscal 2025 data from raw material procurement through production. This is a higher confidence level than limited assurance, so customers can use the numbers in their own supply chain emissions reporting. Acrylonitrile is used in ABS resins, acrylic fibers, and carbon fiber precursors. Verified footprint data matters because downstream buyers need consistent inputs for scope 3 calculations. Tongsuh has held ISCC PLUS certification since 2021 and has sold acrylonitrile made with biomass-derived propylene via mass balance since 2022. Asahi Kasei says it will keep cutting emissions through catalyst improvements and more bio-based feedstock.
