Asahi Kasei Gets Independent Verification for Acrylonitrile Carbon Footprint at South Korea Plant
morningstar.comAsahi Kasei's South Korean subsidiary Tongsuh Petrochemical received Reasonable Assurance verification from Socotec Certification Japan for the product carbon footprint of acrylonitrile produced at its Ulsan plant. The audit covered fiscal 2025 emissions from raw material procurement through production. This is a higher bar than Limited Assurance, so buyers can treat the reported carbon data as independently checked. The company has been working on lower-carbon acrylonitrile for a few years. It got ISCC PLUS certification in 2021 and has sold acrylonitrile made from biomass-based propylene via mass balance since 2022. Asahi Kasei says it will keep cutting emissions through catalyst and process improvements and more bio-based feedstocks. Verified product carbon footprint data matters for downstream industries that use acrylonitrile in ABS resins, acrylic fibers, and carbon fiber precursor material. Those customers need reliable numbers for their own scope 3 reporting and low-carbon procurement decisions.
