Artemis Technologies launches EF-12 Pilot: first fully electric hydrofoil pilot boat for port operations
boatingnz.co.nzArtemis Technologies has launched the EF-12 Pilot, the world's first fully electric hydrofoil pilot boat. The vessel uses carbon-fibre hydrofoils and an autonomous flight control system to lift the hull above the water, cutting drag and allowing a 45-47 nautical mile range at 25 knots. It recharges in under an hour via ultra-fast DC charging. The boat eliminates diesel exhaust, reduces underwater noise, and produces no wake, making it suited for environmentally sensitive harbors. Pilot boats typically burn 450-800 litres of diesel per day, emitting up to 1,200 tonnes of CO2e annually per vessel. The EF-12 Pilot targets that emissions source directly. First customers include Brabo in Belgium, the Swedish Maritime Administration, Noatum Maritime in Abu Dhabi, and the Port of Tyne in the UK. The boat is offered in single (270 kW) and dual (540 kW) propulsion configurations, with top speeds of 30-32 knots.
