Arkema opens €150m acrylic acid purification unit at Carling, cuts site carbon intensity 20%
alchempro.comArkema has commissioned a new acrylic acid purification unit at its Carling site in France. The roughly €150m project is part of the company's decarbonization program and received support from the French state through France 2030 and the EU's NextGenerationEU fund. Arkema says the new process cuts purification energy use by 25% and lowers the site's carbon intensity by 20%. The unit produces acrylic monomers used in coatings, adhesives, water treatment, and advanced materials. It also cuts solvent consumption and improves waste management, which matters for a chemical site that needs to compete in Europe without relying on high-carbon production. The Carling investment is one of Arkema's largest industrial projects in France. The company has earmarked up to €400m for decarbonization projects between 2022 and 2030.
