Ark Energy's $1.3B Richmond Valley Solar and Battery Project in Australia Reaches FID
carboncredits.comArk Energy has secured a final investment decision for the AUD$1.3 billion Richmond Valley Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System in New South Wales, Australia. The project will combine up to 500 MW of solar generation with 475 MW of lithium iron phosphate battery storage, including a first phase of 200 MWac solar and 275 MW battery with 2,200 MWh capacity. Construction is set to begin in October 2026, with commercial operations targeted for January 2029. The project received planning approval from the NSW government in October 2025, federal environmental approval in December 2025, and grid connection approval in June 2026. It is supported by the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap's Long-Term Energy Service Agreement program, which provides revenue certainty. The project is also on the Australian Government's National Renewable Energy Priority List. During peak construction, the project is expected to support over 850 direct and indirect jobs and generate around AUD$180 million in local spending. The battery will store excess solar energy for release during peak demand, improving grid reliability and enabling greater displacement of fossil fuel generation.
