Argentina's Misiones Province Achieves First Verra Jurisdictional REDD+ Certification
carbonherald.comThe Province of Misiones in Argentina has become the first subnational authority to be certified under Verra's Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ Framework. This certification covers three million hectares of the Atlantic Forest, accounting for 13.1 million metric tons of CO2 reductions between 2017 and 2022. Unlike traditional project-level credits, this jurisdictional approach manages emissions across an entire administrative region. This model allows the government to generate high-quality carbon credits for forested areas not tied to individual projects, potentially setting a new standard for climate finance in Latin America and beyond.
