The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has awarded $32 million to HAMR Energy to convert plantation forestry residues into sustainable aviation fuel. This is the first grant under the federal government's $250 million low-carbon liquid fuels initiative. HAMR Energy plans to process 600,000 tonnes of forestry waste annually at a Victorian facility, aiming to cut emissions by 85% compared to conventional fossil fuels and displace up to 140 million litres of fossil fuels each year. The funding will go toward engineering work across HAMR Energy's supply chain to produce low-carbon methanol. The project targets a significant reduction in aviation emissions by using abundant forest waste as feedstock. As an unlisted private entity, HAMR Energy's share price remains unchanged following the announcement.
