The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has invested $766,000 in a new Green Fuels Accelerator pilot program run by advisory firm Cyan Ventures. The program supports seven low-carbon fuel projects across Queensland, Western Australia, and New South Wales. Most of these projects aim to convert agricultural waste or ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and maritime fuel. Qantas and Boeing are also backing the initiative, which targets early-stage projects that have not yet reached a final investment decision. Despite major airlines committing to use SAF, global production remains tiny. The International Air Transport Association reported that sustainable fuel will account for less than 1% of global airline fuel in 2026, or about 2.4 million tonnes. The accelerator aims to provide regulatory, technical, legal, and financial advice to help these projects move toward commercial scale. The goal is to prove that green fuel projects can be viable and unlock further investment in Australia's low-carbon transport sector.
