Arcturus, an advanced materials startup, has emerged from stealth with $8 million in seed funding to commercialize metals infused with carbon nanomaterials. The company says its process can improve electrical and thermal performance in components like motor windings, bus bars, and heat sinks. Investors include Breakthrough Energy Discovery and Toyota Ventures. The technology targets efficiency losses in copper and aluminum that are becoming a bottleneck as AI data centers, electric vehicles, and grid upgrades demand more power. Arcturus claims its materials could save roughly $300 billion in wasted energy and cut over 500 million tonnes of CO2 per year if scaled. The company plans to use the funding to expand manufacturing and pursue commercial deals in electric motors, thermal management, and power infrastructure.
