Colorado startup Aquarry has moved its mine remediation carbon removal process from the lab to a pilot site in Wyoming. The method adds alkaline mine waste to pit lakes, which increases how much CO2 the water absorbs and turns the carbon into solid carbonate rock. The pilot will track how weather, microbes, and water quality affect performance under real conditions. Aquarry raised about $249,000 through a Wren fundraiser last year to make this field deployment possible. The company plans to use the same approach at abandoned asbestos mines in Baie Verte, Newfoundland, where it will work with BAIE Minerals and sell carbon credits while reclaiming the site. Lab work for that site is scheduled for 2027, with an on-site demonstration expected in summer 2028.
