Vietnamese fishermen face paperwork challenges at sea, so a student team built AquaLog, a mobile app that uses AI voice-to-text to record catch logs in about two minutes instead of thirty. The app runs offline, uses blockchain for tamper-proof traceability, and includes a carbon footprint calculator for exports to the EU. The project targets two issues: IUU fishing compliance and CBAM carbon reporting for Vietnam's seafood industry, which exports nearly $11.5 billion annually. Field surveys at Quy Nhon and Vung Tau ports found 85% of fishermen struggle with paper logs, and 92% would use the app if simple enough. The team plans to test fuel savings and pricing improvements through 2026, with a public launch in 2027.
