AP-EESL energy efficiency partnership could become national model for India's climate goals

Andhra Pradesh has formed a comprehensive partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) that officials say could become a national benchmark for energy efficiency and Mission LiFE. The state is covering industries, MSMEs, power distribution companies, urban and rural development, housing, tourism, and public infrastructure under one integrated program. The goal is to cut greenhouse gas emissions while generating financial savings across multiple sectors. According to state officials, India's broader energy efficiency programs through BEE and EESL have already saved over 321 billion units of electricity annually, reduced CO2 emissions by more than 321 million tonnes, and saved over Rs 2 lakh crore. Andhra Pradesh aims to replicate that success at the state level through a saturation-based approach that targets all public infrastructure. EESL also released a report outlining 75 lifestyle changes to support a low-carbon future.
