Anytech Hughes brings Korean carbon mineralisation to Indian cement and steel waste
economictimes.indiatimes.comAnytech Hughes, a joint venture between India's Hughes & Hughes Chem and Korea's ANYTECH, is bringing Korean carbon mineralisation technology to Indian heavy industry. The process uses waste streams like cement bypass dust, fly ash, and steel slag to lock CO2 into stable solids, while recovering products such as potassium chloride and calcium carbonate. Instead of burying CO2 underground, the company says the waste volume at each plant sets the capture capacity. India generates about 19 million tonnes of steel slag a year, with projections of 60 million tonnes by 2030. The company says its full CCU system is designed for up to 20,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and its lower-capex CCS system starts at 10,000 tonnes per year. The technology has been verified in Korean cement pilots, and the firm is now adapting it to Indian materials. The wider bet is that India's carbon market will eventually put a price on permanent storage, but near-term revenue depends on selling recovered materials.
