Antora Energy is installing a 5-gigawatt-hour thermal storage system at a POET ethanol plant in South Dakota. The system uses carbon blocks to store excess wind energy as heat, which the plant then uses to replace natural gas for industrial processes. This project addresses wind curtailment by absorbing low-cost electricity during off-peak hours. By converting this energy into high-temperature heat via thermophotovoltaic cells, the facility reduces its reliance on fossil fuels and lowers operational costs.
