Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, has committed $915 million to Frontier, a carbon removal collective originally founded by Google and Stripe. The pledge doubles the size of Frontier's advanced market commitment, which guarantees future demand for technologies like direct air capture and enhanced rock weathering. Frontier aims to create long term offtake agreements with 10 to 15 companies over 8 to 10 years. The carbon removal market has grown to roughly $12 billion with 49 million credits sold. New regulations requiring companies to use carbon credits to neutralize emissions are expected to drive further demand. Frontier's goal is to build a gigaton scale portfolio of permanent carbon removal solutions. This is the first major commitment from an AI company to a carbon removal initiative.
