AnorTech partners with Canada's NRC on carbon capture research using sustainable alumina

AnorTech has announced a one year research collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada to develop new catalysts for carbon capture. The project will use AnorTech's sustainable alumina, sourced from its anorthosite project in Greenland, to create amine-functionalized adsorbents designed to capture CO2 and convert it to methane. The NRC will test these materials under real world conditions including varying temperatures and humidity levels. The partnership builds on testing from 2025 where AnorTech supplied multiple grades of alumina to the NRC. The company is jointly funding the project and will supply all alumina samples. AnorTech also holds a 100% stake in the Gronne Bjerg anorthosite project in Greenland and has filed a provisional patent for its sustainable alumina process. The company has $1.6 million in working capital and expects additional funding from a Greenland grant.

Agreed on the timeline concern. Also the real world testing conditions they mention are flue gas simulants not actual stack emissions. That gap matters when you scale up.

The company has $1.6M working capital and expects additional grant money. That is not a lot for developing a new carbon capture material and scaling it. Feels more like early stage R&D than a near term commercial play.

The NRC funding structure matters here. If this is a shared cost program the government is effectively de risking the early stage work. That makes sense for a pre revenue company but the path to a commercial product is still long.
