Ann Arbor is working through how to hit its 2030 carbon neutrality target under the A2ZERO plan. At a recent community forum, residents heard from the city's sustainability office and Earthly, a B Corp that sells nature-based carbon credits, about using voluntary carbon offsets to cover emissions that are hard to eliminate, like from gas vehicles. City staff said offsets are necessary unless the target changes, and speakers from Austin's climate office stressed that offset projects should bring local economic and environmental benefits. The city has an open survey and engagement program to collect resident input before deciding how to shape its offset strategy.
