Anglian Water Reduces Carbon Emissions with Everton Wetlands Project
watermagazine.co.ukAnglian Water implemented its first Integrated Constructed Treatment Wetland (ICTW) at the Everton Water Recycling Centre to meet phosphorus discharge limits. By replacing traditional chemical iron dosing with a nature-based system, the project eliminated the need for new concrete infrastructure and ongoing chemical deliveries. The project achieved an 84% reduction in carbon emissions, dropping from 654 tCO2e to 104 tCO2e. This was primarily driven by the removal of 99% of anticipated concrete use and the use of balanced earthworks to avoid transporting soil on and off site.
