Anew Climate and Sweden's EKEN Sign Ten-Year Deal for Swedish Forest Carbon Credits Under Verra VM0045
accessnewswire.comAnew Climate has signed a ten-year agreement with Sweden's EKEN to bring improved forest management credits to corporate buyers. Anew will act as exclusive commercialization partner for credits generated from EKEN's Swedish forest projects, which are being developed under Verra's VM0045 methodology. The deal expands Anew's European forest carbon portfolio alongside its North American managed forestland holdings. VM0045 uses dynamic baselines built from national forest inventory data rather than hypothetical landowner scenarios. Sweden's National Forest Inventory has collected data since 1923, which EKEN says supports credible comparison forests. The projects are expected to generate 30,000 to 65,000 credits from currently enrolled land between 2027 and 2031, with first issuance targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market approved VM0045 v1.2 in August 2025, which may help buyers defend these credits.
