Andhra Pradesh minister invites Rosatom for small modular reactors and nuclear investments
newindianexpress.comAndhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh met with Rosatom officials in Saint Petersburg to propose investments in small modular reactors (SMRs) along the state's coast. The SMRs would provide 24/7 captive clean power to industrial zones. Lokesh also suggested a nuclear desalination plant and a facility for nuclear-grade alloys and carbon-fiber composites. Rosatom confirmed it manages India-Russia nuclear agreements through its Delhi office in partnership with NPCIL. The proposal aligns with Andhra's broader push for large-scale clean energy projects. No firm timeline or capacity figures were disclosed in the meeting.
