Andhra Pradesh has topped India's energy conservation mission, saving 2,863 million units of electricity annually and cutting costs by Rs 1,145 crore. The state leads a nationwide program run by Energy Efficiency Services Limited that has generated over Rs 19,153 crore in total savings and avoided 9,586 MW of peak power demand. Delhi also performed well with 1,192 MU saved and Rs 703 crore in annual savings. The initiative includes a new partnership with EESL to bring energy efficient appliances and management systems to MCD schools in Delhi. These school level projects aim to cut energy use, lower carbon emissions, and support India's Sustainable Development Goals. The results show that state level efficiency programs can deliver measurable financial and grid benefits when properly implemented.

Andhra Pradesh saving 2,863 MU annually is a solid number. That is real avoided generation. Would like to see the breakdown between industrial, commercial, and residential though.

Rs 1,145 crore in savings is impressive but I wonder how much of that is from LED streetlight swaps versus industrial efficiency. EESL usually does bulk procurement for those.

9,586 MW peak demand avoided nationwide is a big claim. Would be useful to see the methodology. Is that based on actual metering or engineering estimates? Peak avoidance is hard to verify.

The school partnership with MCD is interesting but the article jumps between that and the state level numbers. The Rs 1,145 crore for AP likely includes industrial and municipal programs. Would be good to separate the school piece from the broader state tally.

Energy efficiency in schools is a no brainer. Low hanging fruit. But the real test is maintenance. If the appliances fail and nobody replaces them, the savings disappear. Hope EESL has a service contract built in.
