Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu urges net-zero lifestyle, launches $1.8B urban sanitation works

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called on residents to adopt a net-zero lifestyle by cutting household waste and embracing carbon-neutral living. Speaking at the Swachh Andhra-Swarna Andhra program in Gudivada, he virtually launched sanitation and municipal engineering projects worth Rs 15,274 crore across 120 urban local bodies. The initiative includes waste-to-energy plants in eight towns and the deployment of 1,230 electric autos for door-to-door waste collection. The program also featured Operation Clean Sweep awards for municipalities and a coffee table book on the campaign. Naidu linked cleanliness to public health and environmental improvement, stressing that citizen participation is essential. The state government is investing in sewage treatment plants, water tanks, lake restoration, and drainage systems to improve sanitation and drinking water access. This marks a practical push for urban decarbonization through waste management and renewable energy recovery.
