Amsterdam has become the first capital city to ban public advertisements for meat and fossil fuel products. The city aims to link these industries in the public mind as primary drivers of carbon emissions to discourage consumption and support its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. While the ban targets physical billboards and signage, it does not extend to digital advertising. City officials hope that removing these visual cues from public spaces will shift social norms and lead to a measurable decrease in the consumption of high-carbon foods and energy.
