Amrize broke ground on a modernization of its cement plant in Saint-Constant, Quebec. The project aims to cut the plant's net carbon footprint by over 40% by 2035 and expand production capacity from 900,000 to 1.2 million tonnes per year. The company says the plant will have the lowest emissions per tonne of cement in Eastern Canada. The investment is supported by Canada's Low-Carbon Economy Fund and Quebec's carbon market programs. The provincial and federal governments have also announced plans to invest nearly $10 billion over the next decade in local infrastructure, which will increase demand for low-carbon cement. The plant will add about 25% more local jobs. Key details include new high-efficiency equipment for production and logistics, and a commitment to source and manufacture entirely in Quebec. The 40% carbon reduction target uses the Global Cement and Concrete Association definition. The gross reduction is stated as up to 26%.
