Ameren Missouri Plan Adds Gas, Delays Coal Retirements, Cuts Solar and Wind as Data Centers Grow
cleantechnica.comAmeren Missouri's latest long-range resource plan, filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission, leans harder into fossil fuels even as data center demand grows. The utility proposes 5,400 MW of new gas capacity by 2032, up 1,700 MW from the prior plan, and would delay coal retirements at Labadie and Sioux. It also cuts pre-2030 solar investment by 900 MW and removes wind additions before 2030, while dropping its net-zero emissions goal from the plan's promotional materials. Sierra Club says the plan would lock in pollution and expose ratepayers to gas price spikes like Winter Storm Uri. The filing comes as federal action to limit power plant carbon pollution is under threat. The Missouri PSC's decision on this plan will shape the state's grid and emissions for decades.
