Ambuja Cements partners with UK's Leilac for commercial-scale low-carbon cement project using carbon capture technology
economictimes.indiatimes.comAmbuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, has partnered with UK-based clean tech firm Leilac Limited to pilot a commercial-scale low-carbon cement production method at its Sanghipuram plant in Gujarat. The project will test Leilac's carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology, which aims to cut emissions and fuel use in cement manufacturing. Cement production is a major source of industrial CO2, and this initiative targets the chemical emissions from clinker production that are hard to abate with renewables alone. If successful, the project could become one of the world's largest industrial-scale carbon capture facilities. It supports Ambuja's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership highlights growing interest in carbon capture as a key tool for decarbonizing heavy industry, especially in emerging economies where cement demand is high.
