Ambuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, has partnered with UK-based clean technology company Leilac Limited to pilot carbon capture technology at its Sanghi cement plant in Kutch, Gujarat. The project aims to test Leilac's electric heating and carbon capture system on a 6.6 million tonne per annum facility, with the goal of reducing coal consumption to zero and enabling flexible use of alternate fuels. If the pilot succeeds, Ambuja plans to scale the project seven to eight times, capturing over one million tonnes of CO2 annually. The company describes this as potentially the world's largest industrial-scale carbon capture plant for cement. Ambuja is also building nearly 1 GW of captive renewable capacity to support its broader decarbonization efforts.
