Ambuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, has partnered with UK-based clean technology company Leilac to develop a commercial-scale low carbon cement production pathway at its Sanghi plant in Kutch, Gujarat. The project aims to integrate Leilac's carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology to reduce process emissions and coal consumption, with potential to scale up and capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually. This supports Ambuja's SBTi-validated net zero target for 2050 and aligns with broader efforts to decarbonize the cement industry. The partnership focuses on using renewable electricity to power cement manufacturing, backed by nearly 1 GW of captive green power. If successful, the technology could provide a replicable and economic model for low-carbon cement production in India and globally. The collaboration highlights the growing role of carbon capture and electrification in hard-to-abate industrial sectors.
