Ambuja Cements partners with Leilac for carbon capture project at Gujarat cement plant
propnewstime.comAmbuja Cements has partnered with UK-based Leilac to deploy carbon capture and hybrid electrification technology at its Sanghipuram cement plant in Gujarat's Kutch district. The project aims to cut process emissions and fuel consumption while increasing renewable electricity use in cement manufacturing. If successful, the facility could scale to capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually, potentially becoming one of the world's largest industrial carbon capture projects. The initiative supports Ambuja's SBTi-validated net-zero target for 2050 and is backed by nearly 1 GW of captive green power. The company sees combining electrification with carbon capture as a way to improve project economics for the cement sector. This partnership reflects growing pressure on cement producers to address emissions from one of the hardest-to-abate industrial processes.
