Ambuja Cements and Leilac Partner on Low-Carbon Cement Plant in Gujarat with Carbon Capture
republicworld.comAmbuja Cements, an Adani Group subsidiary, has partnered with UK firm Leilac to build a commercial-scale low-carbon cement plant in Sanghipuram, Gujarat. The project uses Leilac's technology to capture process carbon dioxide from cement production and employs hybrid electric heating to cut coal use. It aims to leverage nearly 1 GW of captive green power and align with Ambuja's SBTi-validated net-zero target for 2050. The demonstration plant will be built at Ambuja's existing 6.6 MTPA Sanghi facility. If successful, the partners plan to scale capacity seven to eight times, capturing over one million tonnes of CO2 per year. The goal is to create a replicable model for cleaner cement production across the global industry, reducing process emissions while maintaining output.
