Ambuja Cements and Leilac Partner on Low-Carbon Cement Projects in Gujarat Using Direct Separation Technology

Ambuja Cements has partnered with UK-based clean tech firm Leilac to develop low-carbon cement projects in Gujarat. The collaboration will deploy Leilac's direct separation technology at Ambuja's facilities to capture carbon dioxide from clinker production without using chemicals. The initiative starts with feasibility studies and pilot demonstrations, with technical work following regulatory approvals. Cement manufacturing is a major source of industrial CO2 emissions, largely from limestone calcination. Leilac's technology is designed to separate CO2 from process gases in a form suitable for storage or use. Ambuja plans to evaluate scaling the solution across its Indian production network, while Leilac provides engineering and delivery support. The partnership aims to demonstrate a commercial pathway for low-carbon cement and encourage wider adoption of carbon capture in the industry. Timelines and capital costs will depend on site studies and supply chain factors. Both companies committed to working with regulators and local stakeholders on safe implementation.
