Ambuja Cements and Leilac Partner for Commercial-Scale Low-Carbon Cement Project in Gujarat
ndtvprofit.comAmbuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, has partnered with UK-based clean tech firm Leilac to develop a commercial-scale low-carbon cement project at its 6.6 MTPA plant in Sanghipuram, Gujarat. The project will integrate Leilac's carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology to cut emissions, reduce coal use, and increase reliance on renewable electricity. If the demonstration succeeds, the project could scale up 7 to 8 times to capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually. The partnership supports Ambuja Cements' SBTi-validated net zero target for 2050 and aims to improve the economics of carbon capture for the cement industry. The technology allows for flexible use of alternative fuels and a pathway to zero coal consumption. This is a concrete step toward scalable low-carbon cement production in India and globally.
