Ambuja Cements and Leilac Launch Low-Carbon Cement Project in Gujarat with Carbon Capture
businessoutreach.inAmbuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, has partnered with UK-based clean tech firm Leilac to build a commercial-scale low-carbon cement demonstration project at its Sanghi plant in Kutch, Gujarat. The project will test Leilac's carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology, aiming to cut coal use and process emissions from cement manufacturing. If scaled up 7 to 8 times, the plant could capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually. The project supports Ambuja's 2050 net zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. The company is also investing in 1 GW of solar and wind capacity plus 376 MW of waste heat recovery systems by FY 2028. This partnership is a practical step toward decarbonizing hard-to-abate industrial sectors in India.
